Stallions Hold Columbus Cup Lead

South Columbus victories in JV and Varsity Football helped the Stallions overtake Whiteville for the top spot in Columbus Cup competition at the completion of the fall sports schedule. South Columbus holds a slim 86-84 margin over the Wolfpack heading into the winter sports season. East Columbus has a solid advantage over West Columbus for third place.
Whiteville’s varsity girls teams hold a six-point lead over South Columbus. Boys varsity sports are even at 29. South Columbus junior varsity teams hold a 23-15 advantage over the Wolfpack.
The JV girls sports are a three-team race with South Columbus, East Columbus and Whiteville separated by just four points. West Columbus is the only school to receive all 25 bonus points for being ejection-free this fall.
The Columbus Cup is a yearlong competition among the athletic teams of the four public high schools in Columbus County. Points are awarded for wins over other Columbus County teams. Points are awarded for no ejections in a sport’s regular season and may be deducted for multiple ejections.
